Change words and pictures yourself

Click any text or picture on your site and change it right there — no need to ask.

Some changes are quicker to make yourself: a typo, a new phone number, a better photo. Lanlan's on-page editor lets you click the thing on your site and change it. Anyone who works on the site can use it — the owner and everyone they've invited.

Open the editor

There are three ways in:

  • In Tell Lanlan, press Edit ↗ above the preview. Your site opens in a new tab, ready to edit.
  • Or press Edit in the preview's own bar to edit right there, beside the conversation. (This shows the desktop size only.)
  • On the Pages & SEO page, press Edit on the page on any published page.

A small toolbar appears at the bottom of your site. It says "Click any text or picture to change it." You can drag it to another corner if it's in the way.

Change words

  1. Click the words you want to change. They become editable, with a small formatting bar.
  2. Type your change.
  3. Press Enter (or Save) to keep it. Press Esc (or Cancel) to throw it away.

The formatting bar can make text a heading, paragraph, list or quote, and can add bold, italic and links. On purpose, it doesn't change fonts, colours, sizes or alignment — those are part of your site's design. Ask Lanlan for those: "Make the subheadings a little bigger."

To change a link, click it, then use the link button to edit the address or choose Open in new tab.

Change a picture

Click a picture to see two choices:

  • Replace photo — upload a new one from your computer or phone (up to 10 MB).
  • Adjust focus — drag the target to the part of the picture that must always stay in view, for example someone's face, then press Save focus.

To find a new photo, or make one with AI, ask Lanlan instead: "Find a photo of a busy bakery counter for the top of the home page."

Browse, undo and show what's editable

  • The Edit on the page / Browse switch on the toolbar decides what a click does. In Browse, links work the way they do for visitors, so you can move between pages.
  • Undo and Redo step back and forward through your edits (up to 50). They only cover this visit to the page.
  • The eye button shows everything on the page that you can edit.

What you can't change here

  • Content that comes from a collection or from live data. The editor offers a link to change it where it comes from.
  • Forms, embedded videos and maps, and a few unusual layouts. The editor tells you when something isn't editable here. Ask Lanlan to change those.

Your header and footer can be edited here, and the change appears on every page.

When your edits go live

Every edit is saved as soon as you make it.

  • If your site waits for you to publish (new sites do), your edits go into the draft. Press Publish in Tell Lanlan when you're ready for visitors to see them. The editor's Finish button ends your editing and saves everything; it doesn't publish a draft site. (The editor's own status may still say Live — on these sites, that means saved to the draft.)
  • If your site publishes automatically, your edits go live a few seconds after you stop typing. Finish puts them live straight away.

More about drafts and publishing.

The editing session lasts up to 12 hours, and ends after an hour without activity. If it ends, open the editor again from the dashboard.

What to try next

If you get stuck

Ask Lanlan. In Tell Lanlan, "I can't figure out how to…" almost always gets you unstuck. For anything Lanlan can't help with, email support.
