Set up a blog or portfolio

Anything that's a list — blog posts, portfolio pieces, team members, donors, RSVPs — is a collection. Each item gets its own page.

What collections do

A collection is a list of items that share the same shape — think "all my blog posts," "all my portfolio pieces," "all the people on my team." Each item has the same set of fields (title, date, image, body, and so on), and Lanlan generates a page for each one automatically.

Collections are how you build:

  • A blog (each post is an item)
  • A portfolio (each project is an item)
  • A team page (each person is an item)
  • A donor wall (each donor is an item)
  • An RSVP list (each guest is an item)

Anything else that's a list of similar things.

Set one up

Tell Claude what you want to build:

  • "Set up a blog. I want to write about coffee."
  • "Make a portfolio collection with title, year, cover image, and a description for each piece."
  • "Build a team page from a list of names and short bios."

Claude designs the fields, builds the listing page, builds the per-item template, and you have a working collection in seconds. You can edit the design any time — "Make the blog cards bigger," "Show the date next to each portfolio piece."

Add items

Three ways:

  • Tell Claude. "Add a blog post called 'My first attempt at sourdough.'" Claude opens the markdown body and writes it with you, or pastes whatever you give it.
  • Edit in your dashboard. Open the collection in your dashboard and click Add item. The live preview shows you what each entry will look like as you type.
  • Bulk import. If you have a CSV or JSON file (exported from another tool, or assembled in a spreadsheet), ask Claude: "Import these portfolio pieces from this CSV." Lanlan supports JSON and CSV from a URL or pasted directly.

Number of collections per site Unlimited Unlimited
Items per collection 5 10,000

A few things to know

  • Each item gets its own URL. A blog post called Sourdough notes with slug sourdough-notes lives at /blog/sourdough-notes/ (or just /sourdough-notes/ if your collection is the main thing on the site, like docs are here).
  • The body is markdown. Bold, italics (rendered as bold + accent colour, per Lanlan's brand), bullet lists, links, headings, code blocks, tables — all standard markdown. The dashboard shows a live preview as you type.
  • No data leaves your site. Collections live in Lanlan's database; nothing is shared with third parties.

What to try next

If you get stuck

Ask Claude. "I can't figure out how to…" almost always gets you unstuck. For anything Claude can't help with, email support.
